Top career advice: fight to be irreplaceable—but first decide who you actually want to be…
I do a lot of 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 calls, and the advice I give is usually pretty consistent. This is always at the 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁:

As we kickoff Thanksgiving week, I like to start with being thankful to the irreplaceable people in my life.

As we kickoff Thanksgiving week, I like to start with being thankful to the irreplaceable people in my life.
I was given the advice early in my radio career, “give these people ideas that they can turn into revenue and you’ll never be out of work.” Now as a consultant I have evolved that a little to, “work hard everyday so they could never imagine doing their job without us by their side.”
I once did an exercise where I asked each team member to write down anonymously who on the team is irreplaceable to them. I later shared all of the colleagues who were listed. (Not who said the names, as that was anonymous) What we found was there were a few names up there multiple times and some names not up there at all. Who would you rather be?
So for a little Thanksgiving week LinkedIn fun I ask, “Who is irreplaceable to you?” Feel free to tag them below and thank them!
Let’s see how this goes. Ha!
