I once had dinner at Papa John’s house and he gave me some powerful business advice.
I was asked to speak at a sports marketing conference held by Papa John’s back in 2014. One of the perks of the trip was a pizza party with Papa John at his house. His house was awesome, but that’s not why we are here.
He spoke to group about his business and the growth of his brand. One of the key moments in their growth was during the recession in 2008. He walked into a leadership meeting where his team was preparing for the worst. He challenged them to go find the most qualified perspective franchisees they could. If they were not financially able to start a franchise he would back them… wow! In one of the scariest economies of our time, he decided to double down on his brand and incredible people.
I share this story because with all of the craziness going on in the world right now, you can decide to fold up shop or run and hide… or you can use this time to innovate, create and double down on what you believe in. I know what I’m going to do!
