It’s been 18 years since I woke up to 45 missed text messages that still rattle me today…
He was standing outside of a bar in Boston.
He stepped in to stop a fight.
He was killed with one punch.
It all changed so fast, yet the pain still lingers.
Eddie was my friend, my brother, my teacher, my partner in crime and he believed in me before I knew what that meant.
Here are a few of my favorite lessons from our days bartending together:
- Never let them see you sweat
- They don’t pay you to let this crowd stay quiet, they pay you to put on a show and make them go wild
- Can you believe we get paid for this? Enjoy it my man
- Have fun and smile… it will spread and we will win
I think about him a lot. My journey has taken me to places I could never had imagined and I know that he is enjoying the show.
Each year I sit down and write about my friend and each year I pause to think about what I have learned from this horrific moment…
Enjoy your people. Tell them you love them. And live your life to the fullest because it can all change in a moment. ❤️
