The Chicago Cubs are launching a 17-part scripted rom-com built for TikTok.
Not a hype reel. Not a recap.
An actual serialized love story called Nine Innings to Love, set in Wrigley's bleachers and built vertically for the platform where a younger generation of fans already spends its time.
Some longtime Cubs fans are going to hate it.
That's fine.
It wasn't made for them.
Too many organizations try to create content that pleases everyone and end up connecting deeply with no one.
The Cubs picked a specific audience and built specifically for them. Better yet, they used IP they already own: Wrigley Field, the bleachers, and that possibility that the stranger sitting next to you could become part of your story.
That's what happens when a sports team starts thinking like a media company.
Know who you're trying to reach. Create something specifically for them. Let everyone else be noise.
