Observation

Resenting a brand consultant in 2016 taught him the power of fresh eyes, which inspired CUENTO.

“Hey Wayne, we’re bringing in a consultant to ensure we’re on the right path as a brand.” - my boss in December 2016

“Hey Wayne, we’re bringing in a consultant to ensure we’re on the right path as a brand.” - my boss in December 2016

Me on the outside: “Sounds great! Excited to share the team’s work.”

Me on the inside: “WTF?!?! How can they not trust me? This is just more work for all of us!”

After that assessment of me, my team, and our future plans, I realized the power of fresh eyes and new voices.

That experience motivated me to create CUENTO Marketing (opens the CUENTO site in a new tab) to be a company with those fresh eyes and voices.

Fresh perspectives can:

- Spot easily fixed issues you've been walking by daily.

- Reinforce the great work you're already doing.

- Solve long-standing problems.

- Highlight needs like budget or headcount.

- Add more horsepower to your team.

- Serve as a resource for learning.

I remember the angst I felt when told a consultant was coming in and how I got myself ready for my assessment:

“I’m doing great work. I have an awesome team. Ownership is investing more resources into my area of the business. You got this!”

BTW, we crushed that assessment. It confirmed we were headed in the right direction and led to powerful conversations and a new look for the team and city.

Trust the process and be open to fresh eyes; it could change the game. 🚀👀
