Sometimes it takes time for the possible to become the acceptable. Let me explain…

Zoom meetings were possible well before 2020, but it took a pandemic for us all to accept not driving to someone or getting on a plane to have a meeting.

The college system in our country is vastly overvalued in terms of preparing students for the needs of the workforce, yet we continue to demand that employees bring a degree to the table to even qualify for an interview.

Side hustles allow people to generate more income and usually showcase a passion that people are not exploring at their full-time job. I think it is time for more employers to encourage their employees to explore these creative outlets. I believe that when you are shifting your mind in your free time towards passions, your overall creativity and output will increase.

On a call the other day a friend said to me, “What’s the difference of an employee taking golf lessons at night and practicing on the weekends from an employee building an Etsy store and selling items at a farmers market on the weekend?” I thought that was an interesting point. I understand that not everyone has the ability to thrive at their full time job and execute their side hustle separately, but that doesn’t mean as leaders we shouldn’t be encouraging our people to explore their interests. They are searching for more than we are offering them at work, how do we encourage that and help them grow?
