Trust is built over time and through actions. You can’t talk your way into being trusted.
I’ve spent some time evaluating several pivotal moments throughout my career and the common denominator of those moments came down to trust. Did the person on the other side of the table trust me, my opinions and then the plan I put in front of them? In the case of these key moments that I was evaluating, the answer was yes and it made all of the difference.
The other side is when I needed to trust the person on the other side of the table. I have been fortunate to have incredible leaders throughout my career and I know that is not always the case for everyone. There have been a few instances in my career when I looked up the org chart and realized that I didn’t trust or believe in or want to work for that person and in each of those instances I made the change to move my career ahead. I decided to put trust at the top of my decision tree.
Titles will come, your salary will grow, but trust is something to cherish.

We have a tendency in business to take people who are great at their jobs and eventually put people underneath them.
