Can we talk about this for a moment?
This is on all of us to not create a culture that forces kids down a path that may not be best for them because society will judge them or us as parents. When I was a kid, the amount of stress I carried from 16-17 years old because I didn’t have an answer to “the question” is crazy to think about today.
“The question” = “What are you going to do next year?”
One time when asked, I froze and the dad who had asked me the question looked at my dad and said, “you better get him to college so he’s not a loser!”
Funny, I don’t blame that guy. He was from a generation that the most successful people took that 4 year college path, but folks times have changed! There isn’t just one path to success. There is an entire world of education at our fingertips everyday. Let’s think before judging someone for the path they are choosing for themselves or their kids.
People should choose a path to make them happy, and don’t even get me started on the amount of debt that our kids are incurring to live up to OUR standards.
